Day 454 of the Apocalypse

2nd May 2036

Dad just got back from a council meeting. Someone died in the fire. Old Man Harry. He most likely died of smoke inhalation.

Day 461    of the Apocalypse

9th May 2036

They’ve banished Ricky. Tomorrow two of the adults are taking him away, blindfolded and he’s not to come back. Some people wanted to kill him, hang him, but my Dad and a few others managed to stop them from lynching him in the street. I know what I said, but even I didn’t want to see him die.

They don’t know what to do with the other boys yet. The boys won’t be happy with their leader being banished and they have larger numbers now. More kids are growing unhappy with the way the council are running the village.

I can’t say I blame them. My family has it better because of the farm, but some of the boys don’t have families to help take care of them. Plus, it’s the teenagers getting the worst of it. We work, help out, teach the younger children. Yet we don’t have a say on the council, we can’t choose which trades we want to pursue. The adults expect us to do everything they tell us. They want us to behave like adults, but treat us like children.

        Being a teenager sucks!
